Over 700 serotypes of E. coli have been identified to date. Among the most pathogenic E. coli are the EHEC: E. coli producing shigatoxins (stx) and adhesin (eae) that are responsible for hemorrhagic diarrhea and may provoke severe hemolytic and uremic syndromes [HUS], which can be potentially lethal. E. coli O157:H7 is the most frequently identified EHEC in clinical HUS. Differentiating between the most pathogenic strains of E. coli and others of lesser importance is crucial to reduce false positive results. Pall’s GeneDisc® Rapid Microbiology System enables rapid detection of EHEC, pathogenic E. coli O157, Salmonella spp., Listeria spp. and Listeria monocytogenes.
Pall’s GeneDisc Plate for E. coli O157 & Salmonella spp. simultaneously detects pathogenic E. coli O157 and Salmonella spp in less than nine hours in raw beef samples. As it targets pathogenic E. coli O157, this can reduce the number of false-positives (non- pathogenic E. coli).
The GeneDisc Plate for Salmonella enables specific detection in less than nine hours for raw beef meat and in eighteen hours for all foodstuffs.
The GeneDisc Plate for Listeria enables specific detection in 24 hours for all foodstuffs. Listeria solutions include: the GeneDisc Plate for Listeria monocytogenes for rapid detection, the GeneDisc Plate 'Listeria DUO' for the simultaneous detection of Listeria spp and Listeria monocytogenes and the GeneDisc Plate 'Listeria ID' for confirmation/identification of the six types of Listeria in less than 30 minutes.
