Pre-Treatment and Electro-Dip Painting (PT and ED)
High-performance filtration is critical at each stage of the pre-treat and e-coat process to eliminate contaminants, ensuring quality paint and coatings. If the contaminants are not removed from the system, the vehicles can become contaminated again, impacting the effectiveness of chemical solutions and reducing effectiveness of the entire system, quality and customer satisfaction.
Contaminants in the fluid include:
- Stamping oils
- Drawing compounds
- Weld balls Sealer
- Adhesives
- General manufacturing debris
Comprehensive e-Coating Filtration Solutions for Contaminant Removal
Selecting the right filtration system can be made easier. Our full-service solutions and field expertise will help you identify what you need to improve quality, increase throughput and reduce rework and paint jobs.
These two phases are crucial as they directly impact the defect rate of the assembly line and the overall profitability of the paint shop:
Final Wash: Bacterial Removal from PT Rinsing Baths & Make-up Water for E-coat
Final PT rinsing is an important last stage before E-Coat. Water-borne Pseudomonas bacteria or quick biofilm builders are often usually found in PT rinsing baths and make-up water for E-coat baths. Cars must be clean to ensure the overall quality/durability of the E-coat applied to the car parts. The results of this process lead to better adhesions, corrosion resistance and UV resistance.
Chemical treatments or other techniques like Ozone or UV water treatment, Ultrasonic or Electromagnetic technology, are applied to kill off bacteria and limit growth as much as possible. Once killed, bacteria must be removed from the baths, as they form abiotic sediments that can remain stuck on the car parts, usually called ‘sludge’.
Pall high-performance e-coat filtration enables sludge to be captures and maintains the water-based fluids in good condition for extended service life. Different pre-filter solutions depend on bacteria and particulate contamination levels:
Additional customer benefits include:
- Improved cleanliness of car body parts before entering into the paint shop
- Extended service life of baths
- Better efficiency of anode in the E-coat bath – less sludge
- Silicone free certification of our products 1% increase in “first run” can correlate up to $500K to $1.5M savings per year depending on production
- Glazed and wielded seam products to prevent fiber shedding and migration
- Filtration to designed to minimize the stoppages, rework and sanding across the entire process
Marksman offers improved cost and labor efficiencies as the high surface area and long life of one filter can equal the performance life of up to 10 standard 25.4 cm / 10 in bag filters.
Pall solutions for e-coat filtration incorporate the needs of the automotive industry including high flow rates, durability for less change-outs, and high particle load capability.
Additional customer benefits include:
- Improved vehicle finish and appearance
- Reduced rework on car body
- Reduced indirect material usage
- Extended service life of the PT & ED fluids
