Solutions for Catalyst Protection in the Petrochemical Industry
Superior Performance. Endless Reliability.
Pall filtration solutions and coalescing systems for catalyst protection and recovery in the petrochemical industry are available in a variety of materials and configurations for solid or liquid removal from feed streams.
AquaSep® Plus L/L Coalescer
Pall’s AquaSep® coalescer efficiently separates water from a hydrocarbon stream without disarming. It employs a multiple stage system that first removes particulate matter, then coalesces and separates the dispersed phase liquid from the continuous phase liquid. For removal of water from hydrocarbons, the AquaSep® coalescer removes entrained water to a level below 15 ppmv over a wide range of conditions, with the inlet water concentration as high as 30,000 ppmv and interfacial tension as low as 3.0 dyne/cm. For removal of oil from water, the coalescer removes free oil from water in the horizontal configuration.
PhaseSep® EL Liquid/Liquid coalescers
The PhaseSep® EL Liquid/Liquid coalescers system consists of a multiple stage process starting with filtration. It removes particulate matter, then employs a one-stage or two-stage coalescer stack to separate the two liquid phases. It removes a liquid contaminant to a level of 15 ppmv or below over a wide range of conditions, with the inlet water concentration as high as 100,000 ppmv and interfacial tension as low as 0.5 dyne/cm. The PhaseSep® EL Liquid/Liquid coalescers element is stacked on top of a separator element with optimized flow distribution from the coalescer to the separator, ensuring that each separator has an equal flow.
The system provides superior performance compared to conventional two-stage systems, which require several coalescer elements for each separator. Pall’s stack design results in smaller assembly size and a longer coalescer/separator life. Availability in several different materials ensures compatibility with virtually any type of liquid/liquid mixture. Its non-disarming medium maintains long service life.
Profile® A/S Series PPS Filter Elements
Profile® A/S Series filters are made of an all polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) filter medium with 316 L stainless steel cores standard. The elements have an absolute rated downstream section and a continuously profiled pore size upstream section, which increases service life. The fibers in Profile A/S filters are continuous, and no binder resin or surfactants are used. The fibers are “bonded” by intertwining during the manufacturing process. Filter components meet the specifications for biological tests listed in the current revision of USP for Class VI plastics at 121 °C.
Profile® II Filter
Profile® II filters are all polypropylene, for application in a wide range of corrosive and non-corrosive fluids. The elements have an absolute-rated downstream section, and a continuously graded pore size upstream section, which increases service life. The fibers in Profile II filters are continuous. No binder resin is used – the fibers are “bonded” by intertwining during the manufacturing process. As a result, the filters show no media migration.
The Profile II filter has numerous applications in a broad range of industries including chemical, petrochemical, photochemical, pharmaceutical, biological, electronic, magnetic tape, electroplating, food and beverage, cosmetic, veterinary, medical and fermentation. Profile II filters are used as both prefilters and as final filters.
Profile® UP Filters
Profile® UP filters are pleated polypropylene cartridges. For P and W options, the filters are constructed entirely of FDA-listed materials. The absolute-rated filter medium is constructed using Pall's proprietary method of varying fiber diameter continuously to create a tapered pore filter medium.
Given the unique medium structure, the pressure drop of the Profile UP filter is as low as half that of higher area pleated filters, and as low as one-fifteenth that of conventional depth filters. Consequently, Profile UP filters provide exceptional service life. These filters are thicker than conventional pleated filters and are optimized for gel removal as well as sharp, distinct particle removal. This makes the elements ideal for viscous fluids and dispersions, and applications where long service life is important.
Pall filtration solutions and coalescing systems prevent rapid deactivation of downstream catalysts, off-specification final products, and increased maintenance costs from contamination. To see purchase information or talk to a Pall filtration expert, click here.
