Long lasting, high-efficiency solutions
High Efficiency Solutions Ammonia Liquid Separation
Advanced PhaseSep® Y coalescers and premium Ultipleat® High Flow filters effectively and reliably separate liquid/liquid emulsions to provide excellent fluid quality, enhanced protection of downstream equipment, and lower separation costs.
Oil lubricated reciprocating piston compressors are often used in ammonia plants to produce the high pressure levels that are required for ammonia synthesis reactions to occur. Issues that can arise from oil contamination include off-specification product, catalyst bed poisoning, heat exchanger fouling, and storage vessel cleanup projects.
To protect against this, high efficiency liquid coalescers are installed downstream of synthesis gas compressors.Pall Ultipleat® High Flow filters pre-filter and PhaseSep® Y liquid/liquid coalescer system can be installed in a vertical or horizontal orientation depending on the criteria of the liquids involved.
The first stage consists of a pre-filter housing that is used to remove solids from the inlet emulsion stream to protect the coalescer and ensure long service life. The pre-filter also functions as a pre-coalescer and starts the fine droplets in the emulsion on their route to forming larger intermediate drops that continue to enlarge in the coalescer medium.
Ultipleat® High Flow Filters make up to 50% smaller filter systems possible and require up to 40 times fewer elements to change out. These absolute rated filer mediums are inside-to-outside coreless, all plastic construction that minimize waste disposal. This results in higher flow rates per filter cartridge – up to 1900 lpm (500 gpm)To protect against this, high efficiency liquid coalescers are installed downstream of synthesis gas compressors. Pall Ultipleat® High Flow filters pre-filter and PhaseSep® Y liquid/liquid coalescer system can be installed in a vertical or horizontal orientation depending on the criteria of the liquids involved.
The PhaseSep® Y is a special polymeric coalescer designed for processing in ammonia environments.
In the coalescer housing, the liquid/liquid emulsion enters the high-efficiency PhaseSep® Y coalescing element and flows inside to outside. Dispersed phase droplets suspended in the continuous phase merge together in the fiber medium, or coalesce, as the emulsion moves through the coalescer medium.
The large coalesced droplets of the dispersed phase leave the coalescer cartridges and are separated by the difference in density between the two phases in the settling zone of the horizontal housing.
Pall PhaseSep® Y feature FDA listed materials, an all polyolefin construction, tapered pore structure, and high void volume medium
